Grasses - Bromegrass |
Bromegrasss can withstand periods of drought but
responds well to irrigation. Mixed with alfalfa it provides a high quality forage. It can
be interseeded with other grasses. It can be used in naturalized meadow plantings for
conservation and erosion control.
VARIETIES: Lincoln, Carlton, Fox,
Tango, Rebound are just a few.
ADAPTATION: Adapted to the cooler regions of temperate climates and does best on
well-drained fertile soils of loam consistency.
WATERING: Drought resistant but responds well to irrigation for higher yields.
MAINTENANCE: Fertilization if needed and early mowing if weeds are a problem.
ESTABLISHMENT: Early spring is the best time to establish the plantings especially
when planted with legumes because they will not stand colder weather.
FERTILIZATION: This should be added in the beginning if planted on soil of low
fertility or old stands, which may have depleted the ground. Fertilization rates are also
dependent upon the mixing of legumes at planting.
USAGE: Forage crop in pasture, hays silage, and used in erosion control.
SEEDING: Drill seeding is the best but it can be broadcast and the poundage will
differ according to the method used and whether it is seeded with other crops.
